WHAT WE DO
We started the Bengaluru chapter of United Way Worldwide in 2008, with the vision to make lasting and effective change within our city and the rural areas around it. By bringing all communities together to create change locally, we in turn help them make the world a better place to live in – in our small but determined way. All our work is informed by the SDGs and we are committed to do our bit to ensure they are achieved.
WHERE WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The United Way pillars are at the heart of everything we do. These guide our actions and drive our initiatives to touch innumerable lives through the following:

ACCESS TO HEALTH
Health is a vital building block of life. And to make it easily available for all, it requires a dedicated, systematic, and holistic approach. This is why we work with partners to cover all bases across the continuum of care — from child and maternal care to geriatric and end-stage palliative care.
And we don’t stop at that. Our highly inclusive model extends a helping hand to the marginalized sections of our society — homeless, elders, people with physical and mental disabilities — to eliminate barriers and deliver care to all where they need it.

EARLY CHILDHOOD SUCCESS
Childhood success is the very foundation of productivity and quality of life in communities of the future. We believe, a person can have the power to improve their own life if they are given a chance to grow up in good health, with good education. And to make this possible, we partner with government anganwadis that work to develop the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional skills to ensure school readiness.

YOUTH SUCCESS
As part of our commitment to strengthen the building blocks of life, we run an extensive program for youth success. Our focus is to mentor the younger generation and provide financial support for their higher education. Through skill development and placement trainings, we make sure our youth community is job-ready and equipped to climb the ladders of life.

ECONOMIC MOBILITY
We understand the importance of economic mobility, especially in a country with high rates of poverty, low rates of literacy, and a large unskilled population. It is imperative for them to receive the necessary training and develop essential skills for their social and economic growth. Keeping this in mind, we have special training programs for youth and women with or without formal education, that make them job-ready, and help them become financially independent.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Healthy communities can function to the best of their abilities when there is clean air, pollutant-free water, abundant natural resources, and a non-toxic surrounding. And at United Way Bengaluru, we recognize the importance of maintaining such an environment and take regular steps to safeguard it by organizing clean drives, conservation programs, and awareness campaigns.

FLAGSHIP PROGRAMS

WAKE THE LAKE
The disappearing lakes of Bengaluru were becoming a threat to the environment and the city. Wake the Lake was the response to this situation, and collaborated with the Karnataka Government, corporates, and citizens and successfully revived and conserved not just one, but twenty of the city’s lakes.
BORN LEARNING CAMPAIGN
It’s crucial for children (0-6 years) to develop physically and mentally in order to be school-ready. To build awareness and foster holistic growth, we teamed up with government-run anganwadis in peri-urban and rural areas that create the opportunity for a healthy and productive childhood.

RISE FOR RURAL
Despite strong economic growth, rural communities around Bengaluru still struggle to access the basic necessities. To create a positive impact, we worked with local partners to understand the needs of these communities and suggest solutions to offer them a better quality of life.
