India is one of the ‘young’ countries in the world, with 50% of its population below the age of 25 and more than 65% below the age of 35.
However, presently, only a small percentage of this population has access to livelihood opportunities in the organized sector, due to multiple challenges. UWBe, with support from an American Banking enterprise, is helping them build capacities to get employment opportunities in the organized sector, which will enable them to utilize social and welfare benefits such as maternity leave, specified minimum wages, health insurance, etc.
We work with women, young girls, school drop-outs and persons with disabilities, and reach out to corporate partners to ensure the employability of the people trained. While providing vocational skills training, we pay special attention to life skills and value education. The sponsoring company’s employees assist by:
- Taking sessions on spoken English.
- Offering counselling and career guidance support.
- Assisting with content development for the training modules.
- Conducting sessions on life skills.
- Hosting exposure visits.
